老子,又称老聃、李耳,字伯阳,楚国苦县曲仁里(今河南鹿邑县太清宫镇)人。是我国古代伟大的哲学家和思想家、道家学派创始人。老子乃世界文化名人,世界百位历史名人之一,存世有《道德经》(又称《老子》),其作品的精华是朴素的辩证法,主张无为而治,其学说对中国哲学发展具有深刻影响。在道教中老子被尊为道祖。
Laozi, also known as Lao Dan or Li Er, with a courtesy name Boyang, was born in Qurenli, Ku county, the State of Chu (now Taiqinggong town, Luyi county, Henan province). He is a prominent philosopher and thinker of ancient China as well as the creator of Taoism. Amongst the 100 most important historical celebrities in the world, he is said to have authored the Tao Te Ching (often simply referred to as Laozi), whose essence is the plain dialectics and the idea of “doing nothing”. His theories have had a profound influence on the development of Chinese philosophy and therefore Laozi is revered as a deity in most denominations of the Taoist religion.
