平陵[1]东

无名氏

平陵东,松柏桐[2],

不知何人劫义公[3]。

劫义公,在高堂[4]下,

交钱百万两走马[5]。

两走马,亦诚难,

顾见追吏心中恻。

心中恻,血出漉,

归告我家卖黄犊。

注释:

[1] 平陵:汉昭帝墓,在今陕西咸阳市西北。

[2] 松柏桐:指墓地。

[3] 义公:古时对“好人”的美称。一说,义公是姓义的人。

[4] 高堂:指官府衙门。

[5] 走马:善跑的马。这句意思是说,官吏责令义公必须交钱百万,再加两匹走马,尔后才能获得释放。

In pine trees’ gloom,

Who has carried away our honest groom?

Our groom without resources

Carried to the high hall by forces,

To be ransomed by million coins and two fine horses.

One fine horse, one fine steed,

It’s hard indeed.

Seeing the officer, his heart would bleed.

His bleeding heart grows cold.

“Oh let my wife be told:

The yellow calf be sold, the yellow calf be sold!”
