The Crab-apple Flower

Tang Bohu

The crab-apple flower sprinkled with rain last night

Drop on drop appears intoxicating to sight.

The early rising belle goes from her bower

For her make-up to pluck the gleaming flower.

She asks her love if it’s fair as her face,

He says he favors its attractive grace.

It arouses her coquettish displeasure:

“Could it vie in beauty with living treasure?”

She kneads it and throws it onto his face:

“Could you pass the night in its embrace?”
