Li Shangyin (813–858) was a poet from the late-Tang era famous for his dense and cryptic poetic imagery.

 

微雨

初随林霭[1]动,

稍共夜凉分。

窗迥侵灯冷,

庭虚[2]近水闻。

李商隐的咏物诗,摹写入微,细致传神。云气弥漫,夜晚微凉,空寂的庭院里,轻响着细微的淅沥声,别有意境。

注释:

[1]林霭:林中的云气。

[2]虚:这里是空旷的意思。

A Slight Rain

You seem to see a floating vapor rise

And feel the coolness of night vaporize.

Through open window it flickers lamplight,

An empty poolside hall hears it alight.
