After My Resignation

Li Shizhi

From premiership I have resigned;

Delight in cups of wine I find.

How many visitors of yore

Will call on me now as before?

The poem “After My Resignation” is a five-part poem written by Li Shizhi, a Tang Dynasty chancellor. The poem describes his feelings after his dismissal from the government through antithesis, slang and puns, and profoundly satirizes the situation of the officialdom where traitorous ministers manipulate power and villains flatter.
