Out the window screen, several springs have dimmed.
That day by the embroidered drapes where we met,
Eyes lowered, you pretended going away,
Then smilingly tidied up your scented cloudlike tresses,
Shutting down a mountain of spring, too shy to speak,
Hard to reveal lightly to people emotions so deep.
1. Gaotang Road: the road that led to Gaotang, which was an itinerary palace of Chu (one of the Warring States during the Eastern Zhou period [770-256 B.C.]) for kings and princes where, according to ancient fairy tales, King of Chu Huai and King of Chu Xiang both had their rendezvous (in erotic dreams) with Goddess of Wushan. the allusion here suggests a love dream cut short.
