Song of Immortals (I)

Guo Pu

The gallants live in capital;

The hermits’ huts in forest stand.

Why should you envy lordly hall

Not lasting as the fairy land?

Drink water clear by riverside;

Pluck herbs divine on mountains proud!

Dragons in water deep may hide.

Why should you climb up floating cloud?

Zhuang Zhou[1]declined an office high;

Lai’s wife retired to mountains deep.[2]

The dragon might go up the sky;

You’d sink and be caught like a sheep.

Better soar o’er the world in breeze

And o’erdo the hermits with ease!

注释:

[1] Zhuang Zhou was a philosopher.

[2] Old Lai was a hermit.
