88方丈有个表弟名叫于八,在庙里经管庙产,却不是和尚。当即请来相见,和韦小宝极投缘。第二日,韦小宝、双儿于八三人领了八个挑斋僧礼佛之物的挑夫,沿大路往南、前去五台山清凉寺。

89那清凉寺在清凉山之巅,和沿途所见寺庙相比,也不见得如何宏伟,山门破旧,显已年久失修。于八进入山门,向知客僧告知,北京城有一位韦大官人要来大做法事,斋僧供佛。
89 The Qingliang Temple is on the top of Qingliang Mountain. Compared with the temples seen along the way, it is not so grand. The gate is dilapidated and obviously in disrepair. Yu Ba entered the mountain gate and told the informed monk that there was a senior official of Wei in Beijing who was going to do something big.
90方丈澄光老和尚来到厢房,和韦小宝相见。澄光身材甚高,但骨瘦如柴,双目微闭,一副没精打采的模样。韦小宝说要在寺里做七天七夜法事,澄光推三阻四,就是不允,还要知客僧领韦小宝去金阁寺做法事。
The Abbot Chengguang came to the wing room and met Wei Xiaobao. Chengguang is very tall, but skinny, with eyes slightly closed, and a listless look. Wei Xiaobao said that he would do magic in the temple for seven days and seven nights, but Chengguang refused. He also told the monk to take Wei Xiaobao to the Golden Pavilion Temple to do things.
91韦小宝急了,忙道:“我母亲说了,每一份礼物,要我亲手交给宝刹每一位大和尚,就算是火工道人,种菜的园子,也都有份。”澄光抬起头来,突然间目光如电,在韦小宝脸上一扫,说道:“好!就如施主所愿!”

92寺内撞起钟来,知客僧请韦小宝到西殿布施。僧众络绎进来,韦小宝发放布施物品，凝神注视每一名和尚,可是五十多份施物发完，连跟小皇帝相貌有一二分相似的和尚,也没一个。

93正在这时,一群喇嘛冲进大雄宝殿,为首的一名黄衣上披红色袈裟的喇嘛对澄光方丈道:“我们打西藏来中原公干,一个贼和尚拐走了我们一名小喇嘛,藏在清凉寺中,让我们搜一搜!”
At this moment, a group of lamas rushed into the the Shakya ManiHall, and a monk in yellow with a red cassock headed by him said to Abbot Chengguang, “We came to the Central Plains for business in Tibet, and a thief monk stole one of our young lamas and hid it in the Qingliang Temple. Let’s search!”
94大门口又抢进三四十人,有和尚、有喇嘛,还有几名身穿长袍的俗家人。那肥头胖耳的和尚名叫溪，是五台山佛光寺方文,他指着一个老喇嘛和一个身穿青布衫的文人道：“澄光师兄，这是巴颜法师和皇甫阁先生。”
At the gate, another thirty or forty people, including monks, lamas and several ordinary families in robes, were snatched in. The fat monk, named Xi, was Fang Wen from the Foguang Temple of Mount Wutai. Pointing to an old monk and a scholar in a blue cloth shirt, he said, “Senior Brother Chengguang, this is Master Ba Yan and Mr. Huangfuge.”
95数十人搜到东北方一座小僧院前,见院门紧闭,一喇嘛飞脚往门上踢去,澄光身影微晃,挡在门前,巴颜和皇甫阁分从左右向澄光进击,众喇嘛也挥舞钢刀向他砍去。
