81一日，船行至鄱阳湖畔，舟泊九江口。令狐冲上岸散步，忽遇白蛟帮堂主，知悉“万里独行”田伯光联络江湖上众帮会，定于十二月十五日一同前往少林寺搭救任大小姐。

84第二天，令狐冲辞别恒山派众人，径自向北孜然而行。傍晚时到了一座大镇，正要寻店歇宿，忽见迎面走来一群汉子，其中一人又矮又胖，赫然便是“黄河老祖”之一的老头子，忙过去叫了一声。

86令狐冲也不推辞，凛然道:“谁当盟主，那是小事一件，只要救得圣姑出来。众人争做盟主，大伤和气，咱们现须立即赶去救人。”

87令狐冲等人赶到黄保坪时已是深夜，见过各路左道豪客，令狐冲当即派人赶制旗帜，采办皮鼓。第二天擂起鼓来，群豪齐声呐喊，列队向北进发。

89众人正在惊疑，忽听后殿厢房有呻吟之声，令狐冲抢进厢房，不禁大吃一惊，只见定闲师太与定逸师太躺在血泊之中。定逸师太已然气绝身亡，定闲师太也伤势沉重，气若游丝。
89 The people were wondering when they heard a groan in the back hall wing room. Linghu Chong rushed into the wing room, and was shocked to see Abbess Dingxian and Abbess Dingyi lying in a pool of blood. Nun Dingyi has died of anger, and Nun Dingxian is also seriously injured. She is as angry as a thread.
90定闲师太见令狐冲到来，眼中闪过一丝喜色，低声说道:“令狐大侠，请你……一定答允我……接掌恒山门户……”令狐冲颇感为难，噙着眼泪，不发一言。
