72韦小宝拿了密旨，来到晦聪的禅房，说道:“方丈师兄，皇上有一道密旨给我，要请你指点。”拆开密旨封套，见里面折着一大张宣纸，摊将开来，画着四幅图画。
Wei Xiaobao took the secret edict and came to Huicong’s meditation room and said, “Abbot, the emperor has a secret edict for me. I want you to give me some advice.” When he opened the cover of the secret edict, he saw a large piece of rice paper folded inside, spread it out, and drew four pictures.
73原来康熙雅擅丹青，知道韦小宝识字有限，便画图下旨。这四幅图画的意思是要他到清凉寺去做住持，待奉老皇帝。除微笑道:“恭喜师弟，皇上派你去住持清凉寺，还要师弟带领一群本寺僧侣，随同前往。“
It turned out that Kangxi Ya was good at painting, and knew that Wei Xiaobao’s literacy was limited, so he drew a picture and made an order. The four pictures mean that he should go to Qingliang Temple to be the abbot and serve the old emperor. 74韦小宝点了罗汉堂十八罗汉，澄观和另外十多名和他说得来的僧侣，一共凑齐了三十六名。晦聪将这三十六名少林僧召来，说晦明禅师要去住持五台山清凉寺，叮嘱他们随同前去，听由晦明禅师吩咐差遺，不可有违。
Wei Xiaobao ordered the eighteen Arhat in the Arhat Hall, Chengguan and more than ten other monks who could talk with him, and a total of thirty-six were gathered. Hui Cong summoned the 36 Shaolin monks and told them that Zen Master Huiming was going to the Qingliang Temple of Mount Wutai, and told them to go along with them. Don’t disobey the orders of Zen Master Huiming.
75次日一早，韦小宝领了三十六僧下山，找到在民家寄居了半年的双儿，让她出即换上男装扮个书值，随同前往。
In the morning of the next day, Wei Xiaobao led thirty-six monks down the mountain to find Shuang’er, who had been living in Minjia for half a year, and asked her to change into a man’s clothes as a bookseller and go with her.
76不一日来到五台山清凉寺，得知玉林、行痴、行颠仍住在山后小庙，韦小宝便派人在小庙周田结四座茅庐，派八名少林僧轮流当值，保护者皇帝。寺中其他事情都由澄光等老僧指点，韦小宝做起方丈来倒也像模像样。
He came to the Qingliang Temple on Mount Wutai a day later and learned that Yulin, Xingchi and Xingdian still lived in the small temple behind the mountain. Wei Xiaobao sent people to build four huts in Zhoutian, the small temple, and sent eight Shaolin monks on duty in turn, protecting the emperor. Other things in the temple are instructed by old monks such as Cheng Guang, and Wei Xiaobao is a decent abbot.
77这一日，韦小宝心中想着绿衫女郎，独自在五台山到处乱走，猛一抬头，见数千喇嘛五成群，带着兵刃，散布在树丛山石之间。韦小宝大吃一惊。想这些人定是来掳劫行痴大师的。
On this day, Wei Xiaobao, thinking of the girl in green, walked around Mount Wutai alone. He suddenly looked up and saw thousands of lamas in groups, armed with weapons, scattered among the trees, mountains and rocks. Wei Xiaobao was shocked. I think these people must have come to kidnap the master.
78韦小宝当即带了澄心、澄观等四位老僧齐到山后小庙，找玉林和行痴、行颠商议对策。韦小宝道:“三十六计，走为上计”但行痴不肯，他微笑道:“我是世间祸胎，我要当众自焚!”玉林和行颠也愿和他一同焚身。
78 Wei Xiaobao immediately brought four old monks, Chengxin and Chengguan, to the small temple behind the mountain to find Yulin and Xingchi and Xingding to discuss countermeasures. Wei Xiaobao said, “Thirty-six plans, walking is the best plan.” But Xingbing refused. He smiled and said, “I am a disaster in the world. I will burn myself in public!” Yulin and Xingying would also like to burn themselves with him.
79韦小宝回到文殊殿中，招集三十六名少林僧，“你们三十六位，现下冲出寺去，搞拿四五十名喇嘛上来。”
79 Wei Xiaobao returned to the Manjusri Hall and recruited thirty-six Shaolin monks. “Now, thirty-six of you, rush out of the temple and get forty or fifty monks.”
80不一会儿，众僧抓了喇嘛回来，韦小宝让大家将喇嘛们剥得赤条条的，锁入柴房，脱下袈裟，换上喇嘛的袍子。韦小宝捡了一件最小的喇嘛袍子，让双儿帮他换上，见穿了仍是太大，便用匕首将下摆和衣袖割下了一截。
After a while, the monks caught the lamas and came back. Wei Xiaobao asked them to strip them naked, lock them in the firewood room, take off their cassocks and put on the lamas’ robes. Wei Xiaobao picked up the smallest Lama robe and asked Shuang’er to help him change it. Seeing that it was still too big, he cut a part of the hem and sleeve with a dagger.
